If you think a hurricane may be coming your way, prepare for the worst.
There are many reasons why boats are easy targets for hurricanes. High water can slam them into docks. Rain can flood them causing them to sink. Wind can roll and thrust them violently against mooring lines until they break. .
Even when the storm is over, looters target boats for valuables and steal smaller craft that go undamaged.

Evacuate Early If you plan to trailer your boat to the mainland, you must do so before an evacuation order is issued.
Hunker Down Owners of large crafts that must stay in the water must secure their vessels in a predetermined anchorage or mooring area.
Charge it Be sure batteries are charged and bilge pumps are operational.
Tie it Up Keep sufficient tie lines and chafing gear, anchors and anchor line, and any other equipment necessary to secure your boat in the water.
Listen Monitor NOAA Weather radio.
Get Out Never stay aboard your boat in a hurricane!
